Emus are native to Australia and a large flightless bird. Native Australians used the Emu for meat and oil through the ages.

Wild Emus were considered a pest to the Australian farmer and were not commercially farmed in Australia until the 1990's. The United States started importing Emus in 1930 through 1950 until Australia put a ban on importing them, but U.S. commercial Emu farming did not really begin until the 1980's.

Emu products include meat which is similar in taste and texture to beef except it has more protein, iron and vitamins. Emu oil is used in many cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals as anti inflamation and other drugs.

Emu eggs can also be eaten or blown out for decorative purposes. The feather and leatherlike hide have a great many craft purposes. So as you can see the Emu is an extremely usefull bird.
